Veteran Interview Legislation for State of Minnesota Government Employment
Effective July 1, 2009, the top five Recently Separated Veterans (RSV) who apply and meet the qualifications for a vacancy will be granted an interview. To qualify as a RSV, you must meet all of the following criteria.

  1. have separated under honorable conditions from any branch of the armed forces of the United States;
  2. have served on active duty for 181 consecutive days or more or for the full period ordered to active duty OR have separated by reason of disability incurred while serving on duty;
  3. be a United States citizen or resident alien;
  4. have served in active military service at any time on or after September 11, 2001 as shown on your form DD-214.

Note: If invited to interview you will be required to present your DD-214 to verify that you meet the RSV requirements.

It is the responsibility of the veteran to apply and meet the qualifications for the vacancy; and submit and maintain current veteran information in the "Supplemental Information" section in Resume Builder.

How to Update your Veteran Information

  • Go to and log into your My State Job Search Account, then select <Resume Builder>
  • Select <Edit Your Resume>, then <Supplemental Information>
  • Scroll to the Veterans Preference and Recently Separated Veterans section
  • Update if appropriate
  • Select <Return to Home Page>
  • Select <Submit Resume>

  • Go to and create a My State Job Search Account
  • Select <Resume Builder> and create or copy/paste your resume
  • Select <Supplemental Information>
  • Scroll to the Veterans Preference and Recently Separated Veterans sections
  • Enter Veterans Preference and Recently Separated Veterans sections if applicable
  • Complete resume sections
  • Select <Return to Home Page>
  • Click <Submit Resume>
